I have to admit I have been critical of Paul Wellens for the past two years. I have always thought he was a good club player don't get me wrong, but I never subscribed to the SKY version of him being the best thing since sliced bread. For me Kris Radlinski was always the better fullback when Wigan and Saints battled for the international jumper.
I must now say that Wellens has produced one of the best displays from a Super League fullback in several seasons thanks to his four try showing at Bradford. Perhaps a proper close season has done him the world of good?
For the record other scorers in Saints 38-6 thrashing of Bradford were: Jon Wilkin and Kyle Eastmond who also kicked seven goals. Bradford's sole response came from Matt Orford who also goaled.
Only 2,330 were in attendance at the Twickenham Stoop to see Harlequins win their first Super League game of the season by 16-4 against Catalans Dragons. Will Sharp scored a hat-trick while Danny Orr kicked two goals. Catalans responded with a try from Clint Greenshields.
Wakefield still top the table with 3 wins from their first 3 games including today's excellent 28-18 victory over Leeds Rhinos.
Irish international Sean Gleeson, Ben Jeffries, Daryl Millard and Danny Brough scored tries with Brough also kicking six goals. Danny McGuire and Scott Donald (2) responded for Leeds with goals split betwen Kevin Sinfield (2) and Rob Burrow (1).
Perhaps more impressive was the crowd at Belle Vue - 9783.
