It has been confirmed by the Castleford club that their young wing/fullback Richard Owen broke both Tibia and Fibula bones in his leg during a tackle on Friday night.
Owen is a talented young player, still just 19 who made his debut during Castleford's promotion winning season in 2007.
His total record for the Tigers is as follows:
2007 9 apps 11 sub 11 tries 44 points
2008 22 apps 2 sub 13 tries 52 points
2009 24 apps 1 sub 9 tries 36 points
2010 3 apps 1 try 4 points
Total 58 apps 14 sub 34 tries 136 points.
I sincerely hope he is able to make a full recovery. His talent in the National Leagues was there for all to see, especially as alongside Joe Westerman he was just 16 years old when he made his debut.
The official statement from Castleford's official website: www.castigers.com reads:
Tigers coach Terry Matterson has confirmed that Richard Owen suffered a broken leg in Friday's match at Bradford.
Richard suffered a break to both his tibia and fibula and Terry said this morning that it looks as if he will be out for the season. Richard will undergo an operation this week.
He also said that scrum half Brent Sherwin may again be an absentee on Saturday evening. Brent suffered a recurrence of a knee injury which he sustained in the off season, ruling him out of Friday's game.
Terry also added that the team were very disappointed after the game and determined to bounce back on Saturday evening when we entertain Hull KR.
Despite his condition, Richard - speaking from Bradford Royal Infirmary - is philosophical about his circumstances saying: "These things happen in sport, I'll be OK."
Richard is able to view the internet and supporters wishing to send their wishes can do so by commenting on this story via the club's facebook page.
