Relegation

Well, it happened.

Relegation was confirmed for Leigh Centurions despite them putting on their best performance of the season in a 47-14 thumping of Whitehaven. Results away from the Sports Village went the way of Gateshead and Batley while the exemption from the drop for Toulouse meant that Leigh, who actually finished third bottom in the final table, will play in Rugby League's third tier next year.

With Ian Millward still on the way and a few signings still to confirm, it is a setback for the club but overall the Centurions have been punished for two things, not being creative enough near opposition try lines and at times not being able to keep teams close in the manner that Sheffield have.

A lot of hard work is now in front of the club and I hope lessons are learned, as alluded too by Paul Rowley in his after game conference with the press.

One thing is for sure, it will be Leigh's first season in Rugby League's lower rung since 1997.
