I thought I'd look back through Mike Latham's excellent Leigh Rugby League Club: A Comprehensive Record to gather information about some of the previous games on this date - 6th September through the years.
1902: Leigh defeated Broughton Rangers with former St Helens Recs halfback Jimmy Molyneux scoring a try and goal in a 5-3 home win.
1913: Two goals from Ellis Clarkson were not enough as Warrington overwhelmed Leigh 23-4 in an away match.
1919: Despite two goals from former Bedford Recs utility back Abraham Whalley, Leigh lost 4-13 at Barrow.
1924: Leigh took on Huddersfield at home and scored tries through Jimmy France and Harry Thomas. Sadly that wasn't enough and Leigh fell to a 12-6 defeat.
1930: Former Wigan St Pats forward Micky Griffin scored Leigh's only try in a hard fought 5-5 draw at Oldham with former Roughyed Tom Hurtley adding a goal.
1933: Swinton were rampant in a 43-11 win over Leigh. Billy Stringman, Dicky Prescott and Harry Davies scored tries for the visitors with Harry Meadows hitting a goal but Leigh were a distant second best.

1978: A big defeat came at Odsal as Bradford Northern cruised to a 38-7 win. John Taylor scored Leigh's only try with John Woods kicking two goals.
1981: Leigh played their first home league game of their Championship winning season and narrowly defeated Bradford 17-14, cheered on by a crowd of 6,355. Mick McTigue, John Woods and Derek Pyke scored tries with Woods also landing four goals.
