RL Comment: Man of Steel Nominations

The nominations were revealed for the Man-of-Steel awards the other day with two players from Wigan and one from Warrington in the frame.

Veteran prop Adrian Morley, willow-the-wisp halfback or fullback Sam Tomkins and top points getter Pat Richards are all in the frame.

To be fair all three have had excellent seasons with Morley leading the Wolves superbly and picking up the Challenge Cup for Warrington for a second year in succession. Tomkins has excelled at Wigan whether at stand-off or fullback and is one of the most exciting talents in Super League while the form of Richards has already been acknowledged by the Rugby League Writers Association who named the former Wests Tigers winger as their player of the season after a campaign that has seen him break Andy Farrell's points in a year record. To date Richards has amassed 430 points this season from 31 tries and 153 goals.

The nominations came via the fact that all Super League players were polled.

My money is on hard-man Morley picking up the award at the RFL's dinner ahead of the Grand Final.

I just think he's a well respected player and whilst the other two are certainly more explosive and can create and score, their plaudits often come after the hard graft is put in by forwards.
