RL Comment - Interesting stuff at Galpharm this weekend

I normally take a glance at the referee appointments for the forthcoming weekend and I see that Richard Silverwood has been selected to ref the Rhinos game with Huddersfield at the Galpharm Stadium. For those of you wondering what I am referring to, Mr Silverwood was the referee for the Rhinos recent World Club Challenge loss and was heavily criticised post match by Keith Senior who has since been asked to appear before the Rugby League.

Now I am unsure of when the charge against Senior will be heard but I do wonder if this week will be Senior v Silverwood 2 or whether he'll be able to keep his mouth shut this time. It was Senior's indiscipline that cost 2 points in that final when he backchatted the referee.

I see tonight Senior has been fined £1000 for criticising match officials. I reckon if this had happened in an amateur game Mr Senior would be looking at an 8 match ban. I think he's a lucky boy. Well done to the RFL for hitting him in the pocket. Maybe the centre will think and engage brain before speaking next time.
