RL Press Release & Comment

St Helens have selected Huddersfield Giants as their opponents in next Friday's historic Engage Super League Qualifying Semi-final, the last competitive match to be played at GPW Recruitment Stadium.

Saints announced their preferred choice at the Club Call conference this afternoon when all four clubs who remain in the most exciting Engage Super League play-off series were represented.

St Helens, the highest ranked winning club after the opening round of the play-offs, elected not to use Club Call to choose Wigan Warriors as their last opponents at Knowsley Road, their home for the last 120 years.

Instead, Wigan will travel to defending Engage Super League champions Leeds Rhinos next Saturday for their Qualifying Semi-final, the winners of which will go straight into the Engage Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford on Saturday October 2.

Next week's Qualifying Semi-final schedule is as follows:

Friday September 24 - St Helens v Huddersfield Giants (8.00)

Saturday September 26 - Leeds Rhinos v Wigan Warriors (5.15)

Well it was a no brainer really. If they'd picked Wigan and lost no Wigan fan would have let St Helens ever forget.
