The season may be just a few weeks old but already teams resources are being tested. Michael Lawrence at Huddersfield has been ruled out for between 4 and 6 weeks while Leeds have lost youngster Kallum Watkins.
As great as our sport is, there is always a chance of injury, that is a given and players are generally lucky if they can get through a full season without at least a niggle. This is one of the reasons I take great interest when it comes to ever-present players. The demands of the game are arguably higher than ever, although I don't think we have the best product, particularly over here at the moment where the wrestle in a tackle is commonplace.
I always admired the way the Canberra Raiders circa 1988-92 played, this was some superb quick attack and judging from the NRL I managed to catch on the internet over the weekend, it's gone back that way - the game between Wests Tigers and Manly was a cracker with lots of very good attacking rugby league and I take what people are saying about 2 referees.
It has certainly made the game seem even quicker and the intensity levels are great. It would be fair to say I was very impressed, also by the fact that Gareth Ellis appears to be flourishing and now Mark Flanaghan is sampling the delights of that competition.
