RL Comment

I'm in a fortunate position where I receive emails and press releases from the RFL.

One landed in my in-box today about the Crusaders.

Now it would be fair to say that I've got an opinion about how this club has been able to seemingly flout the rules and by the grace of god hang on to their place in Super League. I'm sure the RFL thought it was stretching it's top flight boundaries to South Wales and within a year the club has all but started again as a North Wales entity based all of 32 miles from Widnes.

That must come as a slap in the face to Vikings fans. I know Leigh were pretty vocal at the time the Crusaders got the nod for Super League but all that will be water under the bridge in 2010 for the Centurions.

Anyway, back to the Crusaders and Wrexham. The town gets its first chance in several years to see Rugby League and according to the report, fans, businesses and other corporate guests have lapped up tickets with a figure of 7,400 being quoted.

It all points to being a good second coming for the Welsh team and I hope despite my feelings on the issue that RL expansion gets its act together.

There are just two questions I have.

What will happen if Leeds win very comfortably? Are the finances there to sustain the outpost franchise?

Maybe one of these days we'll look towards the Summer Conference as Rugby League's best bet of expansion. This has grown year on year and is the success story of Rugby League in my eyes.
Answers on a postcard to Club Management, Crusaders RLFC, Wrexham and copy in the RFL too!
