Amateur Round-up 2

Well the big game came and went, starting in cloudy conditions and finishing in the words of comic Peter Kay with "that fine rain that soaks you through."

It was full blooded, it was tense. Miners tackled their hearts out and East struggled for field position except for on a couple of occasions. Scrum-half Scott O'Brien scored against his old club after 51 minutes and having another disallowed moments later (7 to be exact) for obstruction.

Miners had built an 8-0 half-time advantage thanks to an 11th minute penalty from wing Tom Bradbury and a try from former Wigan Academy centre Ross Bradley.

East grabbed that score through O'Brien but successive penalties from Bradbury moved the scoreline to 12-4 before the game clinching try eleven minutes from the end.

Replacement hooker Anthony Nicholson, who recently returned from international duty crowned his Miners first team debut with a try after a good break from former Leigh Centurions loose forward Liam Coleman and Bradbury increased his goal haul to five with the kick.
